JPDA Selected to Design Passive House Bronx Tech Incubator

The Bronx Tech Incubator will provide a mix of offices, open workstations and collaboration spaces for technology startups.  Encompassing over 23,000 square feet in a converted industrial building, the project will be designed to Passive House standards for building performance and energy efficiency.

Located in the Bronx's Foxhurst neighborhood, the Tech Incubator will bring jobs, access to working and social space, and a cafe to an underserved community removed from Manhattan's established Silicon Alleys. 

 

Dwana Smallwood Selects JPDA to Design New Performing Arts Center

Former principal dancer for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Dwana Smallwood has also collaborated with Oprah Winfrey to develop educational and dance programs for women in South Africa.

The Dwana Smallwood Performing Arts Center aims to use the arts, primarily dance, as a means to empower youth within New York’s inner city communities. They will endeavor to mold elite dancers and artists who will be able to develop, grow and compete on the world’s stage. The center will be a springboard for creating community identity and encouraging creative activity in neglected inner city areas.

JPDA's Harley-Davidson of NYC retail design project has been selected as a finalist forArchitizer's A+ Architecture+Branding Award.

Our approach was to design an open, interactive environment highlighting the experience of craftsmanship, community, legacy and freedom to attract a younger, sophisticated and more diverse customer base to the brand.

JPDA shortlisted in Bergen Children's Hospital Competition

JPDA was shortlisted from a pool of 180 entrants in a competition to design an interactive entry installation at Bergen's Haukeland Children's Hospital.

Space was tight in the East Village Studio yesterday afternoon when HGTV brought their film crew in to shoot for their upcoming series "Extreme Small Spaces."  The series will feature our work as well as other innovative small footprint living spaces.

JPDA's Darrick Borowski to Deliver Talk on Cities, Urban Farming and Algorithmic Design

JPDA Creative Director, Darrick Borowski, and colleagues from the Architectural Association, London, will be presenting their ongoing research ‘Edible Infrastructures: Emergent Organizational Patterns For a Productive City’ at ACADIA 2012: Synthetic Digital Ecologies this Sunday, Oct 21 at CCA in San Francisco.

Their research, Edible Infrastructures, is an investigation into new modes of urbanism which consider food systems as integral and generative components of a city’s metabolic infrastructure. Using algorithms as design tools they pose the question “What might the city look like if it were organized around the production and distribution of food?”
